Beginner Tip
Spend the beginning of your run collecting safe, scattered pellets. You do not need to attack large opponents immediately to build a competitive snake.

Game Introduction
Slither.io is a competitive multiplayer snake game created by Steve Howse. Enter a large online arena, collect glowing orbs, and grow from a tiny slither into one of the longest players on the leaderboard.
Size is valuable, but it does not guarantee survival. Your run ends when your head collides with another player’s body. Even a small snake can eliminate the arena leader by accelerating across its path at exactly the right moment.
When a player is eliminated, its accumulated mass becomes a trail of bright pellets that nearby snakes can collect. These sudden feeding opportunities create risky battles in which every player wants the reward, but one careless turn can end an entire run.

What Is Slither.io?
Slither.io is an online multiplayer survival game inspired by the growth mechanics of classic Snake. Instead of navigating an enclosed grid, you move freely through a shared circular arena filled with glowing food and other players.
The game was developed by Steve Howse and originally released in March 2016. Lowtech Studios publishes its current mobile editions. Slither.io became popular because it combined extremely simple controls with competitive encounters in which positioning and timing matter more than size alone.
Your objective is to become the longest snake in the session. Collect naturally appearing pellets, consume the remains of eliminated opponents, protect your head, and use your body to restrict the movement of nearby players.
Unlike traditional Snake, touching your own body does not eliminate you. This allows you to coil, turn tightly, and use your length as a protective barrier. However, touching another player’s body with your head ends your current run.
How to Play Slither.io
Choose a nickname, select your preferred appearance, and enter the arena. Your snake moves forward automatically, so you only need to control its direction and decide when to accelerate.
Collect the small glowing orbs scattered around the map to increase your length. These ordinary pellets provide safe but gradual growth. The brighter mass released by an eliminated player is considerably more valuable, although approaching it can place you among several competing snakes.
Keep your head away from every opponent’s body. If another player crashes into your snake, that player is eliminated and leaves its collected mass behind. Move carefully before attempting to consume it because other players may be preparing an ambush.
Use boosting for short, purposeful movements. A quick burst can help you escape danger, reach fresh mass, or cut across an opponent’s path. Boosting consumes some of your length, so holding it unnecessarily can undo part of your progress.
Snakes, Skins, and Arena Objects
Every player controls a snake-like character known as a slither. Players begin small but can continue growing for as long as they survive and collect mass.
The arena contains several important visual elements:
- Small glowing pellets: Naturally occurring food used for steady growth
- Defeated-player mass: Dense, valuable trails left when another snake is eliminated
- Other snakes: Moving hazards that can also become targets
- Leaderboard: Displays the leading players in the current session
- Mini-map: Helps you understand your approximate arena position
- Arena boundary: Marks the edge of the playable area and should be avoided
Slither.io includes different colors, patterns, accessories, and skin-building options depending on the version. Cosmetic choices change your appearance but do not give your snake a competitive size or speed advantage. The official mobile version has continued adding skin and control options. The App Store lists Lowtech Studios as the current mobile developer and publisher.

Levels and Gameplay
Slither.io does not use traditional stages or numbered levels. Each new run begins with a small snake in the shared arena and continues until you collide with another player or the boundary.
Early gameplay is about safe growth. Collect scattered pellets, avoid crowded areas, and watch for defeated snakes without immediately entering every feeding rush.
Once you reach medium size, your longer body gives you more strategic options. You can block escape routes, defend valuable mass, or begin circling smaller snakes. Medium-sized players are still maneuverable enough to make sharp offensive moves.
Large snakes can surround several opponents and control wide sections of the arena. However, their length attracts aggressive players seeking a valuable elimination. The challenge therefore changes from growing quickly to defending your head and avoiding impatient decisions.
There is no final level to complete. Your goals are to survive, achieve a personal-best length, and earn a position on the session leaderboard.
Tips and Strategies
Use brief boosts instead of holding the acceleration control continuously. A short burst is often enough to reach an opening or move in front of another snake.
Approach defeated-player mass from the outside. Driving directly into the middle of a feeding crowd makes it difficult to see incoming threats.
Keep your cursor reasonably close to your snake when you need tight, controlled turns. Moving it farther away can help establish a smoother direction across open areas.
When circling an opponent, tighten the coil gradually. Turning inward too aggressively may expose your head or create an opportunity for the trapped player to escape.
Use your own body as a temporary safe zone. Since crossing it is harmless, you can follow your existing coil while deciding where to move next.
Watch the head of every nearby snake. The body shows where an opponent has been, but the head reveals the direction of the next threat.

Tips and Tricks
Pro Tip
Use a short boost to move just ahead of an opponent’s head, then turn away before contact. The goal is to make the rival hit your body—not to create a dangerous head-on collision.
Common Mistake
Do not rush directly into every pile left by a defeated snake. Mass attracts multiple players, and the resulting crowd is often more dangerous than the original fight.
Strategy Tip
A medium-sized snake offers an effective balance between useful body length and responsive movement. Use that stage to intercept larger opponents before attempting wide coils.
Developer Insight
From the Lalo.games editorial team: Slither.io is not truly a game about becoming enormous as quickly as possible. Its deeper challenge is deciding how much risk to accept for faster growth. Patient players survive longer, while skilled opportunists know exactly when one aggressive turn is worth the danger.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Slither.io?
Slither.io is an online multiplayer snake game created by Steve Howse. You collect glowing pellets to grow while trying to make competing snakes crash into your body.
Is Slither.io free to play?
Yes. Slither.io can be played free through supported web browsers. Official free mobile apps are also available, although they may contain advertisements or optional purchases.
Who created Slither.io?
Slither.io was created by Steve Howse and released in 2016. Its current mobile editions are published through Lowtech Studios.
How do you grow quickly in Slither.io?
Collect the concentrated glowing mass left by eliminated snakes. This produces faster growth than gathering individual pellets, but these feeding areas are usually crowded and dangerous.
What happens when my head hits another snake?
Your snake is immediately eliminated and its accumulated mass becomes collectible pellets. Touching your own body is safe.
Can a small snake defeat a large snake?
Yes. A small player can boost across a larger snake’s route and force its head to collide with the smaller snake’s body. This mechanic prevents size from guaranteeing victory.
How does the speed boost work?
Hold the left mouse button or Spacebar to accelerate on desktop. Boosting consumes some of your mass, so it is best used in controlled bursts.
Can you play Slither.io with friends?
Supported versions allow players to select a server, which can make joining the same environment easier. Slither.io does not always provide a conventional private-party system, so successfully entering the same session may depend on the version and available servers.
Does Slither.io have an ending or time limit?
No. A normal run continues until your snake is eliminated or you leave the session. The leaderboard and personal-length records provide ongoing goals.
Is Slither.io unblocked?
The browser edition does not require desktop installation, but access on school or workplace networks depends on local filtering and acceptable-use policies. Lalo.games cannot guarantee that the game will be available on every restricted network.
