Gummy Blocks

Gummy Blocks is a colorful drag-and-drop puzzle game developed by Block99. It combines familiar line-clearing mechanics with a slower and more strategic style of play.

Instead of controlling pieces that fall from the top, you receive three gummy shapes beneath the board. You can select them in any order and place them in any available position where the complete shape fits.

The objective is to create full rows and columns. Every completed line disappears, awards points, and opens new spaces for future pieces. Your session continues for as long as at least one available shape can be placed.

The simple rules make the game approachable, but reaching a high score requires careful board management and the ability to plan around several differently shaped blocks.

A set of three random gummy shapes appears beneath the 10×10 board. Select one piece, drag it over the grid, and release it in an empty area.

Every square occupied by the shape must fit inside the board and cannot overlap an existing block. Once placed, a piece cannot normally be moved to another position.

Continue placing shapes until you complete a horizontal row or vertical column. A completed line disappears immediately, giving you points and creating additional space.

You must place all three current shapes before receiving another random set. The game ends when one of the remaining pieces cannot be placed anywhere on the grid.

The Three-Piece System

The three-piece block system is one of the most important parts of Gummy Blocks. Every round gives you three shapes to consider at the same time.

You may place these pieces in any order, which gives you an opportunity to plan a short sequence. A small piece might complete a line first, creating enough room for one of the larger shapes.

New blocks do not appear after every individual placement. You must use the complete set of three before the next group becomes visible.

This means you cannot predict exactly which pieces will arrive afterward. Your strategy should protect flexible areas instead of preparing the entire board for one specific future shape.

Clearing Rows and Columns

A line clears when every square in a horizontal row or vertical column contains a block. The completed line disappears and all other pieces remain in their original positions.

Because Gummy Blocks supports both row and column clearing, every placement can contribute to more than one possible line. A carefully positioned shape may complete a horizontal row and vertical column simultaneously.

Clearing multiple lines with one placement can award more points and remove a large number of blocks at once. These moves also create valuable open areas for the next set of pieces.

Try to prepare several nearly complete lines around the same section of the board. When the correct shape becomes available, one move may finish multiple lines together.

Combos and High Scores

Your score increases whenever you clear a completed row or column. Larger clears and connected scoring sequences generally provide better results than isolated single-line clears.

A Gummy Blocks combo occurs when you clear lines through consecutive moves or complete several lines with one piece. Maintaining a scoring sequence can significantly improve your total.

However, waiting too long for a perfect combination can be risky. If the board becomes crowded, clearing one available line is often safer than preserving it for a larger future move.

The current score is displayed during gameplay, while your best result provides a target for the next session. The endless structure makes every game an opportunity to improve your personal record.

When Does the Game End?

The game ends when an available gummy shape cannot fit anywhere on the board. You do not need to fill every square to lose.

A session can end while several empty spaces remain if those spaces are divided into small or awkward gaps. Large squares, long bars, and wide shapes need continuous open areas.

Before placing a piece, check whether the other two shapes still have valid positions. A move that looks useful by itself may block the only available location for another piece in the current set.

Keeping the board organized is more important than simply filling empty squares. Open space must remain connected and useful for different types of pieces.

Gummy Blocks vs Tetris

Gummy Blocks is inspired by the line-clearing formula associated with Tetris, but the two games have several major differences.

In Tetris, individual pieces fall from the top of the screen. Players must rotate and position each shape before it reaches the existing stack, creating constant time pressure.

In Gummy Blocks, three pieces wait beneath the board. They do not fall automatically, and you can take as much time as needed before choosing a position.

Gummy Blocks also allows both complete rows and complete columns to disappear. Traditional Tetris primarily focuses on horizontal line clears.

The gummy pieces generally cannot be rotated. You must work with the orientation provided and find a suitable open area on the grid.

These differences create a calmer Tetris-style block puzzle focused on long-term space management rather than reaction speed.
